How On Call Dental Temps Works

Built by experienced dental professionals, On Call Dental Temps is designed to help dental practices quickly find temporary dental professionals (hygienists, assistants, and support staff) using our innovative Temp Staffing Message Service and OnCall Calendar.

How it works for dental practices:

If you know in advance when you will need temporary help at your practice, use our OnCall Calendar:

Step #1: Login or sign up for a membership.

Step #2: Click here to go to the OnCall Calendar.

Step #3: You can either browse professionals available on the date/time you need help or post your own OnCall Calendar event for professionals to review.

Step #4: If you find an available professional while browsing, you can either message them to discuss your needs or book them directly online. If you decide to post your own calendar event, interested professionals can message you to discuss or book directly online.

Step #5: Determine the best candidate and book your temp hygienist, assistant, or support staff!

If you have an immediate staffing need, send out a request to all subscribed professionals in your network by using our Temp Staffing Message Service:

Step #1: Login or sign up for a membership.

Step #2: Go to the Locations page to select the network (i.e. Miami, Chicago, etc.) you’d like to send the request to.

Step #3: Fill out a short form with the details of your staffing need. Most dental practice representatives usually take about 2-3 minutes to complete the form.

Step #4: The details of your staffing request are then instantly sent via text message to all subscribed professionals in your network. Click here to see a sample text message staffing request.

Step #5: Professionals can then email, call or text you if interested. Check out their online profile and book your temp hygienist, assistant or support staff!

How it works for dental professionals:

When a dental practice has an immediate staffing need, they can notify you by using our Temp Staffing Message Service. To receive notifications about temp opportunities in your area:

Step #1:  Sign up for a Dental Professional membership (remember, it’s totally FREE!).

Step #2: During the sign-up process, select what types of jobs you would like to hear about (hygienist, assistant, or support staff).

Step #3: Enter the mobile phone number where you would like to receive notifications about new jobs.

That’s it! You’re all set!

When a dental practice in your area has a temp opportunity available, you will immediately receive a text message with details about the job. If interested, email, call, or text the practice and let them know you are available! Click here to see a sample text message staffing request.

Submitting or Reviewing Member Feedback

To help our members gain additional insight into potential dental practices or dental professionals that they may connect with, we provide a Member Feedback System. If you have questions or have an issue with our Member Feedback System, please email us here.

Leaving Feedback On A Member

To leave feedback about a member that you worked with, please follow the below steps:

Step #1: Make sure you are logged in and then go to the Member Search page.

Step #2: In the Keyword Search box, enter the name of the member that you would like to leave a review for. Click the member’s name to be taken to their Profile.

Step #3: Once at the member’s profile, click on Add Review. Add a comment and select the number of stars you would like to leave as feedback. Click Submit and you are all set!

Review Feedback That Members Have Left For Other Members

To review feedback that other members have received, follow the below steps:

Step #1: Make sure you are logged in and then go to the Member Search page.

Step #2: In the Keyword Search box, enter the name of the member that you would like to leave a review for. Click the member’s name to be taken to their Profile.

Step #3: Once at the member’s profile, click on Reviews. You can then see all feedback left by others for that member.

Reviewing Feedback That Members Have Left For You

When a member leaves feedback about their interactions with you, you will receive an email notifying you that a new review has been left for you. You can also see all reviews left for you by visiting your profile and clicking on Reviews.

Upgrading, Changing or Canceling your Membership

To change or cancel your subscription, visit Account > Membership page. From this page, you can make changes to your active subscription and view your payments. Make sure to check out our Terms of Use to review our membership cancellation and refund policy.

Temp Staffing Message Service

Our Temp Staffing Message Service is the most popular (and effective) tool that we offer. When a dental practice has a temporary staffing need, they can fill out a short form with details of the staffing need. This information is then immediately text messaged to all registered dental professionals in that network.

Keep in mind that we only allow dental practice members to send text messages through our Temp Staffing Message Service and conversely, only allow dental professional members to receive text messages through the service.

How to Receive Temp Staffing Messages

Step #1:  Sign up for a Dental Professional membership (remember, it’s totally FREE!) by picking which network (i.e. Miami, FL or Denver, CO) you would like to join.

Step #2: During the sign-up process, select what types of jobs you would like to hear about (hygienist, assistant, or support staff).

Step #3: Enter the mobile phone number where you would like to receive notifications about new jobs.

That’s it! You’re all set!

Step #2: Go to the Locations page to select the network (i.e. New York City, NY or Seattle, WA) you’d like to send the request to.

Step #3: Fill out a short form with the details of your staffing need. Most dental practice representatives usually take about 2-3 minutes to complete the form.

Step #4: The details of your staffing request are then instantly sent via text message to all subscribed professionals in your network. Click here to see a sample text message staffing request.

Step #5: Professionals can then email, call or text you if interested. Check out their online profile and book your temp hygienist, assistant or support staff! Click here to see a sample text message staffing request.

Note: In order to promote fairness and an equal opportunity for all dental practice members, we only allow dental practices to send out a maximum of 10 temp staffing message requests per calendar month.

ONCALL CALENDAR

Accessing the OnCall Calendar

To use the OnCall Calendar, an active Dental Practice or Dental Professional membership is required.

There are two ways to access the OnCall Calendar:

#1: Click on the OnCall Calendar link in the menu located at the top of this screen.

#2: If logged in, click on Account in the menu and then OnCall Calendar.

Dental Professionals: How to Use the OnCall Calendar

The OnCall Calendar is one of our most helpful tools as it provides dental professionals the ability to find and offer short-term, temporary opportunities in an easy-to-use, calendar format. We understand that many dental professionals have long-term, full or part-time positions but would like to augment their monthly income. With that in mind, we built the OnCall Calendar so that dental professionals can find or offer temporary positions for when and where they would like to work. 

Note: You should not use the OnCall Calendar for long-term position opportunities (those lasting more than two weeks).

Please use the following guide to successfully set up your profile and begin using the OnCall Calendar:

Step #1: Fill out your Profile

You can access your Profile by clicking on Account at the top of this page:

Next, you will be shown your Account menu. Click on Profile and then Edit.

You will now see the different profile groups you can edit (About, Resume, Certificates, Skills, and Special Certificates). Spend a few minutes and fill out the information in each group. This is IMPORTANT because it will allow dental practices to learn more about your work experience, skills, availability etc.

We also recommend that you add a profile photo and cover image. You can find buttons to add those next to the Edit button.

That’s it! Your Profile is now set up and you can begin using the OnCall Calendar. 

Step #2: Add or Search for OnCall Calendar Events

There are two ways to use the OnCall Calendar: adding your own calendar event for dental practice members to see when you are available or search for events already posted by dental practice members.

Adding an Event

To publish a new OnCall Calendar event, visit the OnCall Calendar and click Add New. You can also add a new event by clicking Account > Events > My Events > Add Event/Add New.

You can then enter the details of your event. A couple of important things to remember:

Name Your OnCall Calendar event: This is the first piece of information that dental practice members will see when viewing the OnCall Calendar. Make your event title clear and concise. Below are several examples:

Category: It’s important to select the right category or categories when setting up your OnCall Calendar event. Dental Practice members use the event categories drop-down menu on the OnCallCalendar to sort for dental professional in their area. If you would like to offer position in multiple locations (i.e. Seattle, WA and Portland, OR), you can do so by multi-selecting your desired categories. Remember, you do need an active membership for each location you would like to advertise your services in.

Event Image: Adding an event image increases the likelihood that a dental practice member will book your event. It doesn’t need to be a picture of yourself – some post pictures of their pet, favorite artwork, or a stunning landscape shot.

Allow Online Bookings?: This is a very important option which if selected, will allow dental practive members to book your OnCall Calendar event online. If a dental practice books your OnCall Calendar opportunity, you will receive an email notifying you of the booking. You can then decide whether to approve or decline the booking. If you choose to not allow online bookings, make sure you let dental practive members know to contact you via direct message (more on this below) in the Event Description.

After you have finished adding the details of your event, click Submit Event and your event will immediately be posted and visible to other members on the OnCall Calendar!

What happens next? When a dental practice member is interested in your OnCall Calendar opportunity, they can either book you online (if you enabled the Allow Online Bookings option) or contact you via direct message to complete the booking.

If they booked your event online, you will receive an email that a member wants to book your event along with information about the member who is interested in working with you. You can then view their Profile, direct message, or email them (i.e. to ask questions, confirm pay rate, arrival time, etc.). If you feel that they would be a good fit, you can then approve the booking. If not, you can decline the booking. Either way, an email is automatically sent to the member notifying them of your decision. 

If you approved the booking, direct message the member and work out the specifics. You’re all set!

Searching Events

If you prefer to search for events that dental practice members have published instead of posting your own event, visit the OnCall Calendar and use the navigation buttons at the top to select the month, week, or day you are interested in. You can also use the drop-down menu “All Event Categories” to filter for types of positions and geographic areas. If there are many events posted for that day, switch from the Month to Week or Day view to get a clearer sense of what dental practive members are needing that day. 

Dental Hygienist

When you find an event you are interested in, click on the event name to learn more. There, you will find more details about the event, an option to book the event or you can visit the profile of the member offering the event to see if they might be a good fit. 

Want to book the event but have a question or two first? No problem! While viewing the member’s profile offering the event, just click the Private Message button to send a direct message to them. 

If you decide to book the event, a confirmation email will be sent to both you and the member offering the event with further instructions.

Dental Practices: How to Use the OnCallCalendar

The On Call Calendar is one of our most helpful tools as it provides dental practives the ability to find dental professionals seeking temporary work opportunties in an easy-to-use, calendar format. We understand that many dental practices are short on time and need to find temp help as soon as possible. With that in mind, we built the OnCall Calendar so that dental practices can visually see if there is currently a dental professional available for a specific date/time period, make sure they are a good fit by viewing their profile, and then book that professional all in just a few minutes.

Dental Hygienist

Note: You should not use the OnCall Calendar for long-term temporary opportunities (those lasting more than two weeks).

Spend a few minutes and answer each question (you can skip many of the questions if you prefer not to answer although some are required). This section is IMPORTANT because it will allow dental professionals to learn more about the type of individual you need, where your office located, required experience, software skills, etc.

Dental Hygienist

We also recommend that you add a profile photo and cover image. You can find buttons to add those next to the Edit button.

That’s it! Your Profile is now set up and you can begin using the OnCall Calendar. 

Step #2: Add or Search for OnCall Calendar Events

There are two ways to use the OnCallCalendar: adding an event for when your practice needs temporary help or searching events already posted by dental professional members.

Adding an Event

To publish a new temp opportunity, visit the OnCall Calendar and click Add event. You can also add a new event by clicking Account > Events > My Event > Add Event/Add New.

You can then enter the details of your opportunity. A couple of important things to remember:

Searching Events

When you find an event you are interested in, click on the event name to learn more. There, you will find more details about what the dental professional is offering, an option to book or you can visit the profile of the member offering the event to see if they might be a good fit for your practice. 

Want to book the event but have a question or two first? No problem! While viewing the member’s profile offering the event, just click the Private Message button to send a direct message to them. 

If you decide to book the event, a confirmation email will be sent to both you and the member offering the event with further instructions.

Enabling OnCallCalendar Event Notifications

If you would like to be notified via email when new OnCall Calendar events are published in your area, go to, Account > Profile > Edit > OnCallCalendar Notifications. Select which types of events you would like to be notified about and click “Save Changes”. When a new event that matches your selection is published, you will be instantly notified via email.

Editing an Event

To edit an event you already published, go to Account > Events > My Events. Click the name of the event to edit the details.

Deleting an Event

To delete an event you already published, go to Account > Events > My Events. Find the name of your event and then click the Delete button under the event title.

MEMBER SEARCH

The  Member Search tool is quickly becoming a popular feature of our site as you can browse or search our member directory based on the criteria you select. You can search for a specific member by their name (ex. “Pauline Practice” or just “Pauline”) skill set, experience, geographic acreas as well as search for keywords in another member’s profile (ex. “Spanish”, “10 years experience”, or “hygienist”). Most dental practices and dental professionals in our community use the Member Search tool on a regular basis.

Using Member Search

Access the Member Search tool by clicking on Member Search on the top menu of each page, by visiting Account > Member Search, or by clicking on this link. You can choose to search only certain types of members (dental hygienist, dental assistant, dental support staff, or dental practice) or all members. You can also send a friend request to connect with another member or click on their name to view their Profile if you would like to learn more about them. You can also contact them directly by sending a Private Message.

Showing Members You Are Actively Seeking or Offering Positions

To let other members know that you are actively looking for or offering a temporary opportunity, fill out your profile. Pay particular attention to the “About Me” sections as this is usually the first element of your profile that other members review.

IMPORTANT: To ensure that other members can find your profile within the Member Search tool, you need to fill out your profile first. See the instructions below on how to complete your Profile.

Showing Members You Are Not Actively Seeking or Offering Positions

When you no longer need or are offering positions, please update the “About Me” section to show that you are no longer actively looking for positions. For dental practice members, we recommend adding a sentence at the top of your “About My Office” section that says “POSITION FILLED”.

USING YOUR ACCOUNT PAGE

You can access your Account page by clicking Account at the top of any page or by clicking here. The following is an explanation of each section of your Account page:

Profile

Similar to social media sites, this is where you will build your profile. WE STRONGLY RECOMMEND THAT YOU FILL OUT YOUR PROFILE AS SOON AS YOU CAN. The information in your Profile is important as it will help other members find and connect with you – either through the OnCall Calendar, Temp Staffing Message Service or through our Member Search tool. For more information on filling out your profile, please click here if you are a dental professional or click here if you are a dental practice member.

Membership

Use this section to view your current subscription and payments. To change/cancel your subscription or update your credit/debit card, click on Subscriptions and then the desired action. If you have any questions about your membership, please contact us via email by clicking here.

Notifications

When another member sends you a direct message, you will be notified in this section. You can also see when you receive a new message by keeping an eye on the notification bar located at the top of the page (if you are logged in):

Messages

This section is where you will manage messages sent to and from you. If you want to contact with another member (or they want to contact you), a direct message can be sent. Below are a couple of examples on how members use this section:

“Peter Dentist sees that Lucy Hygienist is offering temp help on Mondays from 9am to 1pm. He sends a message to Lucy asking a few questions about her experience and required pay rate. Lucy responds and Peter decides to book her for Monday mornings.”

“Lucy is a Dental Assistant that speaks Mandarin. A practice is looking for a Mandarin speaking dental assistant and can see that Lucy has that ability by viewing her Profile. The practice sends a direct message Lucy to see if the can work together.”

Friends

Similar to your favorite social media site, this is where you can view your current friends and request friendships with other members. Below is an example of how members use this section:

“Pamela Dentist has a successful practice and wants to expand into other neighboring cities. She has previously hired several dental professionals from On Call Dental Temps and added them as Friends. When she is in need of a temporary dental professional, she visits her “Friends” tab on her Profile so that she can see if they are offering positions that day by viewing their OnCall Calendar events or by direct messaging them. Pamela has built a “short list” of professionals she likes to work with and can now quickly fill any temp opportunities that come up!”

OnCall Calendar

The OnCall Calendar is one of our most helpful tools as it provides members the ability to find and offer short-term, temporary opportunities in an easy-to-use, calendar format.

The OnCallCalendar consists of the calendar where members post and search for temp opportunities and the user portal where you manage your events and bookings.

To learn how to manage your events and bookings in the portal, continue reading below:

Summary: This is the first tab you will see once you click Account > OnCall Calendar and is a summary of your events and bookings. From here, you can view the OnCall Calendar, see events you have created, and view events that you have booked. You can also create a new event here by clicking the Add Event button.

If you view another member’s profile (by using Member Search), in this section you will see the OnCallCalendar events that they have created. This works great if you have worked with a specific professional before and want to see when their next availability is.

Event’s I’ve BookedThis is where you can view events that you have booked, the date of the event, and whether your booking has been approved or rejected by the member who created the event. You can also click the event name to see the details or cancel the event on this page.

My Events: Within this tab, you will see all of the events that you have ever created, the event’s location, whether the event has been booked or not, and if it is a single event or recurring event. You can also delete and duplicate your events here.

My LocationsThe OnCall Calendar allows you to create multiple locations. Dental practice members may only ever have one location (i.e. their practice) but dental professional members may want to add different locations depending on where they are offering help during the week.

My Event BookingsWe’re all busy so we built this tab so that you can quickly manage all of your bookings in one place. Whether you have booked another member’s event or want to check and see if an event you created has been booked, you can manage everything on this page. Use the drop-down boxes to filter for past or upcoming events. You can also filter events to see what is pending, confirmed, rejected, etc. Use the Approve, Unapprove, Reject and Delete buttons to manage your bookings. Remember, whenever you approve or reject a booking, an email is automatically sent to the other user notifying them of your decision. 

Member Search

Settings

In the Settings section, you can make changes to your account and profile:

General: You can change your email and password here.

Account Email: In this section, you can change your email notification settings. We STRONGLY recommend leaving the “A member sends you a new message” option enabled so that you are notified right away via email about a position or opportunity even if you are not logged into this site.

Email Alerts: In this section, you can change your email notification settings. With this feature, you will receive an email when someone sends you a message, when someone mentions you, replies to an update or comment you posted, or someone sends you a friend request. We STRONGLY recommend leaving the “A member sends you a new message” option enabled so that you are notified right away via email about a temp opportunity even if you are not logged into this site.

SMS Alerts:  SMS Alerts is a feature that sends a text message to your mobile device when a member wants to connect with you or sends you a message on our website. We STRONGLY recommend keeping SMS Alerts enabled so that you are instantly notified when a member wants to reach you.
